This Will Never Hurt You. Shut Up.

Today was a non-running day, which means it was a workout day.  I didn't really want to, but did it anyway.  It was fine.

What an inspiration I am!

My workout of choice, mostly because it's easier than a 30-minute Booty Shakin' Ab Bustin' Arm Pumpin' Leg Somethin' video, is the 8-minute series.  8-minute abs, arms, legs and buns.  Plus, there's an 8-minute stretch video, which is nice.  The only thing I don't like about the videos is that the dude talks the whole time he's doing the exercises.  And if you aren't looking, you'd swear he's just sitting in a recliner and talking to you.  No breathing issues or anything.  And at certain points he's like, "This will never hurt you!"  Really?  "You shouldn't feel any pain in your neck!"  Yeah, that would be true if my abs were as strong as I want them to be.  "Smile!"  Shut up.  Honestly, at some point I'll probably have to do something more high octane, but for now this is fine.  Just don't ask me to do Zumba.

A few months ago I went to a Zumba class because a couple beautiful lady friends of mine were raising money for Haiti relief.  See, here we are (I'm bottom left):

I put on my Jacmel shirt (I was there in January haackgoestohaiti.blogspot.com) and headed to the studio, confident I had rhythm.  This confidence was sorely misplaced.  I mean, I have rhythm, just not dancing rhythm.  Or maybe Zumba rhythm.  Whatever the case, I muddled my way through, sweating like a hog and trying to be funny when I had no idea what to do next.  It was quite a workout; both for my body and my ego.

So, I guess I'll be on the lookout for something that doesn't require as much rhythm.  Or...maybe any.

  1. woohoo! i'm in that picture.

rhythm and coordination are two separate things. related, but separate. you can have awesome drummers who trip over their limbs, and people who move so fluidly and gracefully but can't keep a beat to save their life.

and to give us all credit, that was a heck of a crazy zumba class. i've gone before (not there, though), and that was just craziness. =)

  2. Yes, you are!

And that's a good point about rhythm and coordination. That makes me feel somewhat better. hehe

    And you're right...that WAS a crazy class!

  3. If you are a member at Gold Gym, you should try the IndoRow class, it is awesome! Plus it is easy on the joints so its a good cardio alternative to running. Tom teaches the class on Wednesday nights at 5:15 and Friday mornings at 5:30, I would definitely recommend you give it a try :)
