Suck It, Inhaler! Don't Mind If I Do.

When Julie and I left for our weekly business meeting/date-thing, it was raining.  Hard.  Billions of fat rain drops clogging the sky, throwing a wrench in my plans to run tonight.  It's National Running Day and I wanted to run; even just a little.  So, we went and did our thing and on our way home, the skies cleared.  I saw a couple guys running and I got really excited.  Dork.

I ushered the babysitter (my mom) out, put on my running gear (including my shorts which still haven't been washed since the race on Sunday) and headed out into the night.  I was in such a hurry to go, I forgot to use my inhaler.  It was only a mile and a half, but it was really important to me.  It was the first step toward the half.  I ran through some shin pain and breathed a bit heavier than usual, but got through it, smiling.  Big thanks to DCB's "Do Not Move," as usual.

So, here's another issue I need to confront now that I'm committed to running (and blogging about) the half: eating.  I'm sucking at eating well lately.  And it just seems like I can't get a handle on it.  The other day at work: free ice cream bars.  Did I need to eat four of them?  My friends Amber and Kat (at work) informed me that they had a giant tub of Nutella and a bag of "these awesome pretzel chip things" at their desk and I should come have some.  So, I did.  And I had a few handfuls of the peanut butter filled pretzel nuggets they also had.  And they got them at Costco so they're in, like, 90 pound bags/tubs.

Anyway, food seems to be conspiring against me and I need to really buckle-down and make better decisions.  Disciplined decisions.  I know what works: Oatmeal, almonds, fruit and veggies, salad, Wasa crackers and meat and cheese, Clif bars, oranges...I've done it before and can do it again.  Just have to DO IT!  (thanks, Tone)

I better finish this potato salad, though.  I'll start in the morning.

(Tomorrow I'll spend a little time hashing-out why I'm doing this, my expectations, and maybe some specifics.  Thrilling!)

P.S. This entry is dedicated to: The colon (grammatical).

  2. Thanks for following! The Gomers have been two of my closest friends for years. G2 was my best-man (and now is my brother-in-law) and G1 stood in my wedding, too! Glad you've been with them on their journey. I owe them a lot. :)
